Someone Drove a Tesla Cybertruck Into Grapevine Lake (Again). Here's a Better Idea.
Grapevine Lake made national news again this week — and not for its sunsets. Here's what happened, and a much better way to enjoy the lake.
Grapevine Lake made national news again this week — and not for its sunsets.
On Monday evening, a man was arrested after intentionally driving his Tesla Cybertruck into Grapevine Lake to test its "Wade Mode" feature. The truck quickly became disabled and began taking on water, forcing the driver and passengers to abandon it before first responders pulled it from the shoreline. The driver was charged with operating a vehicle in a closed section of the lake, not having a valid boat registration, and other water safety equipment violations.
This is, somehow, not the first time this has happened here.
It's part of a growing pattern — the results range from embarrassing to expensive to criminal charges. For the record, Tesla's own warranty does not cover water-related damage, meaning the driver is likely looking at a very large out-of-pocket repair bill on top of his legal troubles.
We'll give the guy credit for enthusiasm. But if you want to have a genuinely great time on Grapevine Lake — the kind that doesn't end with a tow truck and a mugshot — we've got a better option.
Rent a Jet Ski. It's actually designed for water.
At Rentable Recreation, we operate right here at Meadowmere Park on Grapevine Lake. Our fleet is lake-ready by design, and we've never once needed the Grapevine Fire Department's Water Rescue Team to fish one out of the shoreline. No valid boat registration required — just show up and ride.
Grapevine Lake is beautiful. Enjoy it the right way.
